You are a manifestation of your habits

You are a manifestation of your habits.”

That’s what the physiotherapist told me yesterday.

And my habits are not good. Too much sitting, too much mousing and not enough muscle-work. Even though I’ve been doing a lot of walking, I’m doing it badly.

I kind of knew all this, I know things don’t feel right, but it really helps to be told.

Because now I can do something about it, based on how my body should work.

The something is not easy. First because I have to make it a new habit, second because “You need to change the underlying tissue, and to change the tissue you need to stress it.” That means it’s going to be physically difficult too.

I know what I have to do. The physiotherapist gave me some sketches to follow, so I can do them on my own.

Now I just have to practise it, until I’ve changed my habits. It will be uncomfortable. It will be worth it.

Your business too is a manifestation of its habits. If those habits no longer serve you or your customers, it’s time to change them.

The first step is to understand how the business really should work. The next is to devise alternative ways of doing things that will change the underlying tissues, sketching them out so people can do them on their own.

The third and most important step is to implement them and practise them for long enough to to create new, good habits.

It will be uncomfortable.

It will be worth it.

So worth it, that you’ll be happy to repeat the exercise to keep improving.
