What does joining your business as a new employee feel like?

If your business was a game, what would it feel like to join as a new player?

Is it Mornington Crescent?

The ‘joke’ hidden in the game of ‘Mornington Crescent’, played to inscrutable rules on ‘I’m Sorry I haven’t a Clue’ –  is that actually there are no rules.   The teams make them up as they go along.

It’s an old parlour game, a jolly/cruel hoax played by a group of friends on a newcomer.

Hilarious for the friends.  Bewildering for the newcomer.

Or is it more like Monopoly?

There’s a map showing everywhere you can go, including the pitfalls, everyone has their role, and everyone starts with the same amount of responsibility.

I can’t take this particular analogy further, because Monopoly was actually invented to show the evils of rentierism, and like many such inventions, got hijacked by the very people it sought to lampoon.

Still, I hope you get the point:

Making your business intelligible to newcomers makes it easier for everyone to play well.

Including potential clients.

Discipline makes Daring possible.
