How to take a break from your business

Many small business owners struggle to take a break from their business.

Often they are the face of the business, and clients want to deal with them personally. If they have a team behind them, there’s always work to be checked, questions to be answered, accommodations to be made. Sometimes even, work to be re-done.

Admin gets pushed back to evenings or weekends. A bank holiday is a blessing – for the business, as it gives time to catch up. The idea of an actual holiday feels like a distant memory, or an ever-receding mirage.

There is a way to break out of this treadmill. And not just to enable you to take one holiday, but to set yourself and your business up for regular holidays – and beyond.

Over the next few posts I’m going to take you through a process that will enable you to achieve that initial goal of a short holiday from your business, with minimal interruptions.

In outline:

  • Reframe what your business is
  • Make time to work on this
  • Organise your shared spaces
  • Spell out your Promise of Value
  • Get comfortable with process
  • Decide what to delegate
  • Describe what you delegate
  • Practise the process
  • Hand over the process

then take your break.

Or, if you’re nerd like me that prefers a visual:

It’s not rocket science. It is work. But it’s work everyone in your team will be glad you’ve done.

Especially you.

Discipline makes Daring possible.
