That’s the title of an event that dropped into my inbox this morning.
It got me thinking.
We are human beings. Complex, therefore unpredictable and messy. Button pushing leads to unforseen effects from totally unexpected quarters.
That means that ‘bringing all that we are’ is also bound to be messy and unpredictable.
Unless you decide to create a workplace that feeds people’s souls, helping them to achieve what we all desire:
- Agency – to make their own ‘me-shaped’ dent in the universe.
- Mastery – to learn and master (even teach) new skills.
- Autonomy – to be free to choose how they make their dent.
- Purpose – to do this for something bigger than themselves, that has meaning beyond the sale.
- Community – to do all this with ‘people like us’, and make a ‘we-shaped’ dent in the universe.
- Status – to know (and for others to know) where we stand in our communities.
I know, I know! Work as therapy. What on earth is the point of that?
Well, in my book, making better people beats making a load of shit that fucks them up one way or another.
By quite a long chalk.
Discipline makes Daring possible.
